Lucanian Dolomites Via Ferrata

Another highly appreciated infrastructure in the two villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano is The Via Ferrata, a route equipped for climbing the Lucanian Dolomites, which allows you to reach otherwise inaccessible points and truly discover their great charm.

Recently built to the highest standards with two routes running along the rocky ridges of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa respectively, the Via Ferrata delle Dolomiti Lucane was opened to tourists on 10 July 2015.
The Via Ferrata Dolomiti Lucane is classified as EEA slightly difficult, with a route divided into channels and walkways, vertical passages and exposed sections. The two branches of the route start from the Roman bridge located near the Antro delle Streghe equipped area and climb one towards Castelmezzano and the other towards Pietrapertosa.

The two sections that make up the Via Ferrata delle Dolomiti Lucane are:
the Via Ferrata Salemm on the Castelmezzano side is 1,731 metres long with a height difference of 249 metres;
the Marcirosa Via Ferrata on the Pietrapertosa side is 1,778 metres long with an elevation gain of 331 metres.

The starting point of the routes (Antro delle Streghe equipped area) is located in a large clearing downstream of the Rio di Caperrino, a tributary of the Basento that cuts in half the space dividing the slopes corresponding to the two villages.

The two starting points are connected by the Nepalese Bridge, which can be reached via the Antro delle Streghe, the plateau that runs alongside the Caperrino stream, the centre of the 7 stones route. It is 72 metres long and its highest point is 650 metres above sea level.
