Traditions

In Pietrapertosa, as in all Lucanian villages, traditional festivals are particularly important to the local population and are celebrated with skill and devotion. The festival par excellence is the Maggio di Pietrapertosa (The May in Pietrapertosa), one of the ancient tree rituals still alive in Basilicata, associated with the feast of St. Anthony of Padua.
The traditional cuisine is also authentic, rich in flavours and distinctive. Pietrapertosa dishes have their own characteristics and there is one for every moment of the year. This local tradition is now offered with the autumn festival Sapori d'Autunno (Autumn Flavours Festival), together with a market selling typical products and expertly arranged stands, where flavours and aromas fill the streets of the village in an exceptional setting.
